Your Help is Needed to Test Audio Description on HGTV

Please share with your members who may be able to assist:

On July 1, 2018, HGTV became one of the five top cable providers required by the Federal Communications Commission to provide 87.5 hours per quarter of audio described content. Since July, people all over the country have been reporting that they are not receiving any audio description on HGTV programs.

Tony Stephens at the ACB National Office has been talking with folks at the Discovery Network who were looking into the problem, and they’ve said it’s all working on their end. So, we’ve decided to ask if there are a hand full of people around the country, who are set up and receiving audio description on television programming on a regular basis, hopefully on different cable systems, who could check the October 30th 8:00 pm Time showing of House Hunters on HGTV, which should be audio described. You will need to check the channel number depending on your cable provider and area.

Then, if you could email me a note with your town, cable provider, and if you received any audio description For House Hunters, it would be greatly appreciated.

We will use this information to further test and determine why so many people are not receiving audio description for HGTV. Hopefully, this will help to correct the problem.

Thanks much,
